Accommodation

this.JPGWith so much diversity on offer in the Seychelles, planning where to stay really depends on what activities you want to do; sailing, fishing, bird watching, snorkelling, diving or simply to relax on the beach. Once we have established this we are then able to select the correct island for you to spend your holiday on.

The standard of accommodation in the Seychelles is fantastic and there is quite a variety of accommodation for you to choose from, large/small hotels, spa retreats, to your own private boat.

Reviews of the properties I visited

The Alphonse Island Resort

A very exclusive island resort in the shape of a triangle. This resort consists of twenty five air-conditioned thatched chalets & five executive villas all with superb views. The accommodation blends beautifully into its tropical environment a truly fabulous place to fly-fish, dive or simply to lay back and relax on its gorgeous beaches

Hotel Coco de Mer

This hotel is legendary and for many good reasons the first one being its position on Praslin’s south west coast. What I loved about it was its extremely private setting and a great friendly atmosphere

There are 40 deluxe rooms, & twelve junior suites on offer here. There are two pools one of which is shaped like the unique coco de mer nut!

It is an ideal place to stay for the sport active individual, as many sports are available here including; watersports, tennis & squash courts, mini golf, guided nature trail and a good sized gym/fitness centre.

The island has its own airport, which is a 15 minute drive away.

Places that I visited

Anse Lazio

this1.JPGThe best beach on Praslin - in fact, one of the best in the country situated, in the far north of the island. The beach has glorious white, soft sand, a few rounded granite boulders and a lively line-up of waves. The water is a magical turquoise colour.

At the end of the beach there is a sheltered area which is great for snorkelling.

The beaches to the east of Lazio are protected by a reef, this making the water like a giant bath, shallow, warm and very safe also a brilliant place to snorkel.

Cousin Island

This was a truly breathtaking Island renown for its easy bird watching with over 300,000 birds on an island just 1km in diameter. Seven species of sea bird nest here, including fairy terns, white-tailed tropic birds and two varieties of shearwater, and it’s also home to the rare Seychelles warbler and magpie robin. Hawksbill turtle’s nest here in season.

You can experience this beautiful island yourself with an organised tour, departing from Praslin from Tuesday through to Friday.

Trix’s Comment

The Seychelles is a stunning place to visit, and I was really pleased to experience the wide variety of activities on offer to its visitors, although its very hard to not want to relax and unwind from everyday stresses on the beautiful islands that make up the Seychelles.

When to Go?

Planning a trip to the Seychelles is really based around what activities you want to do. Windsurfing and sailing are best at the start and end of the trade winds, which are usually around May and October. Some beaches are better during the monsoon season, others during the trade winds.

Diving is best in March to May and September to November. It is worth mentioning that hotel prices generally tend to shoot up and accommodation can be harder to find during the peak seasons from December to January and July to August. Easter is also a very popular time to visit.

The rain generally comes in sudden, heavy bursts. January is the wettest month, and mountainous Mahé and Silhouette get the most rainfall. July and August are the driest.
